Dancingtrans DX
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
Welcome to Dancingtrans DX!
This game can be described as the result of putting air hockey, table football and pinball in a blender, with the original being developed as a campus project over the summer in 2025 and this release being an enhanced port (hence the DX) with new boards, modes, features and ways to have fun!
[FAQ]
Q: QUICK I HAVE 10 SECONDS TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO PLAY HELP
A: uhhh uhhh you can move your paddle up and down and spin it clockwise or counter-clockwise, touching the puck will bounce it off just fine but spinning can affect its speed and angle, hazards like bumpers or fans can also change its trajectory, defend your side of the board and score on your rival's side to win! There's an in-game manual that explains all of this much better. Phew, I think that was slightly above 10 seconds but it should be fi- oh that guy's dead
Q: ohhhh so that's what FAQ stands for, "Fuck Answer Quicker"
A: hey no swearing >:( your mom could be reading this
Q: Why is the 3-player mode... like that?
A: The mode was meant to be a simple 1v1v1 but we quickly found out that the third player had a much bigger advantage than anticipated, so we added options to make Player 3's win condition harder to compensate or even turn the mode into a 2v1, where Player 1 and Player 2 need to defend their respective side of the board.
Q: Hey is the game coming to (insert platform)
A: The game is currently only available for Windows and Linux since that's what we have available and personally use. If you want to port it elsewhere, the code can be found here: https://git.gay/JustAGreenToast/Dancingtrans-DX (well, not yet: we're still discussing some bureaucratic stuff behind closed doors but it's 11:30pm at the time of writing and i don't feel like delaying the game bc of it so you're gonna have to wait at least until tomorrow for the project files to be made public, sorry)
Q: No i meant like Steam
A: Oh, um, maybe at some point? idk
Q: How long has this been in the oven for?
A: About 2 and a half months, development started in early February as just a Godot port of the original's gameplay, after a week it was mostly functional (and I played Lethal League Blaze with some friends the previous day) so we started to work on new features like Blaze Mode and new maps, after a month it was clear that this deserved to be its own project rather than a smaller section in another project. Taking off the "being part of a larger project" shackles really helped this project move forward, especially for the non-gameplay portions of development like menus, which took about a month to make because most if not all of the UI stuff I'd done in Godot beforehand was extremely barebones, so I had to get familiar with themes and style boxes (I'm also far from efficient in UI design, hopefully I did a good enough job?)
Q: I think I found a bug??
A: Oops, that's our bad :P feel free to leave a comment in this page or hit us up on Discord (hylus5d10, justagreentoast), we can't guarantee it'll be fixed as soon as possible but it's not likely to get worked on unless we know it's there
Q: what's w/ the name? u trans?
A: As mentioned before, the original version was made as a campus project called ft_transcendence, Hylus misspelled it as ft_transcendance and that swiftly evolved into ft_dancingtrans. The unofficial names for the original game were probably going to be something like "Footpin" or "Footpong" but those are kinda boring, so Dancingtrans it is for this release! As for the second half, Hylus (he/him) is cis (allegedly) so nope, as for me (Toast), well... it's complicated (apparently (yes i stole this bit from sure shot)), I made most if not all of the decisions that'd make you ask that soooo make of that what you will, we have fun here :3
Q: How come there's no music?
A: Mostly due to copyright issues, I know that's inconsistent with the rest of the game since sound effects are ripped from other sources and we don't own the rights to Pokémon Stadium (shocker, I know), but for some reason those things don't feel as tresspassy as straight up yoinking music (and we also don't have the skills to do it ourselves and didn't want to bother someone else). It's a personal thing and also the main reason as to why a lot of my old projects are locked away in my hard drives, this decision might change at some point. As a solution, and also a quality of life feature I suppose, you can load your own audio files to use them as BGM!
Q: So, what now?
A: If I haven't been asking that for a while now... Oh, right, about the game: we find 1.0.0 to be a good enough stop gap to publish what we have and let it rest while we work on other projects. This is also our first time releasing something made in Godot (and Hylus' first time releasing a game) so that's already a decent milestone to be proud of, it's also our excuse in case we missed something very obvious or made a glaringly odd design decision :P We have plans for future updates (improved single-player content, new gameplay features, QoL and optimization stuff, online matches) and there are some features in the original release that haven't made the cut to 1.0.0 (accounts, stats, tournament mode) but we can't in good conscience give a release date or even outright confirm that they'll come out. Until next time, stay gold everyone ;)
Q: ...who are you talking to?
